Town that names self after movie skips commercial opening | Reuters

The East Coast premiere of "POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" last month drew crowds and featured a parade, a mayoral proclamation and a visit from the movie's director Morgan Spurlock, who also directed "Super Size Me."

But only four people showed up at the Carmike Park Hills Plaza 7 theater on Thursday for the film's first commercial screening in the area, according to Daphne Gordon, who attended the 4:30 p.m. show with her husband and two teenage sons.

Gordon said she and her husband were looking for a film to watch for their 20th anniversary and stumbled across Spurlock's movie.

They were surprised to find they were the only people in the theater, she said, "because there was so much fanfare for the premiere."

A spokesman for Carmike Cinemas declined to comment because he did not have information about the screening in Altoona.

The city council approved the 60-day name change unanimously in mid-April. Read More
