Use of #QR codes merges digital, print worlds, codes, yuma, information - Opinion - YumaSun

We are excited about the codes here at the newspaper because it means many of our readers now have a more convenient way to view videos, slide shows and other online information related to our printed stories directly on their cell phones without having to get on a computer.

For example, by scanning the QR code with this column, readers will be able to watch a video we put on YumaSun.com this week of Miss Yuma County Kathryn Clark with a group of students from Palmcroft Elementary playing with blocks from the Imagination Playground provided by the City of Yuma Parks and Recreation department.

Newspapers, including the Yuma Sun, are finding that users of mobile devices - including cell phones - are an increasing part of their audience. There are predictions that a large number of the consumers of newspaper content will be doing so via mobile devices in the near future.

Our use of QR codes is a recognition of this changing dynamic. It joins elements of the printed page with the digital world, an ideal combination.

Even more will be coming in the future. Read More
