R. Stuart & Co. has attached QR codes to the labels of its just-released 2010 Big Fire Pinot Gris. Simply scan the QR with a smart phone's camera feature, and you are almost instantly invited to participate in a "Me and My Big Fire" YouTube photo and video contest.
The contest was developed by company co-owner Maria Stuart, in conjunction with LynkSnap, a Beaverton marketing firm specializing in QR promotions. "We own the code and can redirect it as we want," Stuart said.
"We first started talking with Jeff in early January," she said, referring to LynkSnap owner Jeff Lorton, "and the promotion is already up and running. Talk about things moving quickly."
Stuart is asking Big Fire fans to share their stories via submitted photos or videos. As an inducement, its QR download, handled through apps like ScanLife, includes a sample video called "Chariots of Big Fire."
The video features a guy running down the beach, wine in hand, as a crowd of people chase after him. It seems he bolted into their campfire circle, snatched a bottle of Big Fire and took off.
The video plays to the Chariots of Fire theme, of course.
Winners will be selected on a weekly basis. Each will get a "Me and My Big Fire" T-shirt, emblazoned on the front, of course, with the QR code for the video they submitted. Read More
