The bus ads will contain gigantic copies of QR codes — bar codes that a cell phone can scan to load a message or a website. The codes send cell phones the website discoverLynchburg.org or download a cell phone program about Lynchburg tourism destinations, Nix said.
The codes already appear in some Lynchburg brochures and ads.
The guest speaker at the meeting, a Richmond-area tourism leader, praised Lynchburg for its use of technology like the QR codes.
“The Lynchburg CVB was one of the first in the country to know what a QR code was,” said Jack Berry, president of the Richmond Metropolitan CVB. “Lynchburg was on the cutting edge of this.”
