#QR Codes: Stores, libraries, Realtors all using QR codes

QR Code: A Visual URL that is scanned by a smartphones.

In fact, QR codes have been around for more than 15 years, emerging in the mid-1990s in Japan as a way of tracking parts for manufacturing. Users scan them with reader applications available free online.

But not everyone is buying into the trend.

"I don't use them at all," said Rusty Partch, an Orlando social-media and marketing consultant. "When I'm out and about, I'm not whipping out my phone and scanning something. ... It just doesn't interest me enough."

But Dan Mealo, project director with Altamonte Springs-based i/oTrak, which helps companies go paperless, disagreed.

"When I'm out shopping, I do [use QR codes]," he said. "It's like there might be some treasure behind it, and you won't know until you scan it." Read More

I think QR Codes are great, and I included them for audio downloads from my latest book, The New World of Marketing for Real Estate Agents. They have many uses and add an exciting new tool for consumers.
