While the US and Europe may have experienced a lag in the adoption of QR codes, experts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are making up for lost time, pioneering a new LED-based visual tag called a ‘Bokode’. Although still in development, these can already store thousands of times more information than a traditional QR code despite being a tenth of the size. Downloading a high-definition movie with the scan of a single code could be just around the corner.
