Billboard: 21 Groups Commit 2,000 Stations To HD Radio

Billboard Radio Monitor: "On the eve of the opening of the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the radio industry is making a digital show of force. In a joint announcement, 21 of the country?s largest groups, along with iBiquity Digital Corp., pledged to accelerate a combined 2,000 AM and FM stations to in-band-on-channel digital broadcasting.

Before the announcement, only 500 stations had licensed iBiquity's high definition radio technology. Of those 500, about 200 currently beam a digital signal.

Adding the new and existing HD commitments together will ultimately bring digital terrestrial radio to all of the top 100 markets.

The 21 companies signing up for the accelerated HD rollout are: ABC, Beasley, Bonneville, Clear Channel, Cox, Cumulus, Emmis, Entercom, Entravision, Greater Media, Infinity, Jefferson-Pilot, Journal, Liberman, NextMedia, Radio One, Regent, Saga, Sandusky, Susquehanna and Univision.

HD Radio was developed by iBiquity Digital Corp., the sole developer and licenser of digital radio technology. The company’s investors include 15 of the nation’s top broadcasters such as ABC, Clear Channel, and Viacom."
